i think i'm going to be honest, photography is one thing to prove to those who looked down to me before, and photography is a force that kept me going, moving forward to a life for my own. and in the same time, my works can be shown to others, to acknowledge my existence. and share my feelings.

What does Photography means to you?

What it means to me is that… (1.) I’m Still Alive and still able to think “straight” (2.) It gives me the options on how/what to think. That is, before and after an “event” rather then to think what “people want”.

It’s about all the things that happened in my life, which makes my style of photography inconsistent and slowly evolve thru the years.

Can we recognize a good subject? composition?..etc. Certainly is about the development on how you “SEE”, it’s good to practice to “SEE” even without a camera in hand. But how about other people (that is not into Photography)? that so-called “ungifted eyes” but have the heart in Photography?

The important Question here… Do they willing to accept Photography as what it means to you?

Yipi Lai from Penampang, is a photography student at SEGi College mainly focus on Portraiture and Street Photography.

Most of his influence are come from a various movie in cinematic sense. His images with in-depth colour and also potrays the current nonstop movement of life and have a very keen eye with people's emotion.
He is currently in his final year to complete his Photography Diploma in SEGi College.

Flanegan Bainon, a Murut native from Petagas, Penampang currently pursuing Photography at Melbourne, Australia. Uses Photography as his medium to tell a story of an image and his personal way to explore.

Watch yourself Digital Imaging

Recently got chosen as one of the finalist for 2009 KL Photo Awards Contemporary Portrait Competition. His images are based on a Singular Documentary which every image have a narrative and hidden story on it. He loves to add curiosity in every of his images so that it let people think more rather than just looking at the picture with no reason beside searching for inspiration.

The Forgotten Town Series 2007

His Big Influence are not necessary come from a Photographer. All his works are usually inspired from what he sees in front of him and begin to conceptualize it. He recommend to all the Enthusiast Photographer to check out photography website such as Foto8, Art+Commerce and Lens Culture where you can see the contrasts of Photographer all around the world.

Niq Azriel, Started Photography at the age of 19 when he saw local skater's Charles (KK Photo 88 members) & Greg photos and loves how the way they took the photo in a different angle.

He started to loves photography when he bought his first skateboarding magazine and instantly fall in love with Atiba Jefferson skate photos.

Niq's photo has one of the weird angle you ever seen especially for skate photos. He manage to freeze the important time no matter he took a single frame or a sequence mode. He is also one of a few Sabah Skate Photographer.
He used to study Photography at Segi College but due to personal reason, he have to stop his study.

Currently, Niq is a Full Time Press Photographer for Borneo Post.

Niq is officially the 5th Member of KK Photo 88.

Ahmad Fahad Nasir

For the month of February. KK Photo 88 will be features Fahad Nasir, or well known as Fahad in his flickr. Currently in Perth, Australia studying at Curtin University majoring in Photography Design.

He starts his proper photography when he purchase his first DSLR during his first year university. In 2nd year where he decide to major Photography Design instead of Graphic Design or Multimedia.

Fahad is very well known in Flickr Community because of his landscape photography. Golden Hours is his best friends to shoot Natural Landscape, He believes Kota Kinabalu's Sunset is one of the most beautiful sunset in the world.

Although He say he still looking for his own style. I think he already left his own trademark for shooting natural landscape and also his expertise in digital imaging.

His last words is Get Inspired and Practice Makes Perfect!

Saifulrizan started his venture in photography since 2007. What started as a hobby to kill pastime finally turned him into among other photographers that working hard to promote Labuan through their pictures. Currently playing an active role in building a photographer community in Labuan, he's determined to bring out the best of all the members in the group.

Saifulrizan work mainly involving landscape and local event. He's been to almost every corner of the island taking pictures of places with his own style. For his landscape work, he admired the work from Syed Nasir, Zain Abdullah, Professor Li Yuan, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Christoper Domitter.

Labuan as seen by Saifulrizan is not just a plain island. He is glad that he found photography where he can express and show the world that Labuan has more to see than meet the eyes. He started taking pictures of events as he believes photography is another way to preserve the culture and development of Labuan.

As for today, he's still learning from every photographer he knows. He believes the process of learning never stops and hoping that someday he will contribute something to Labuan that he can proud of.

Dream

For this month features, Sabahan lad currently studying Art and living in the UK. Yeen Uzair, After studying a for quite a while in Europe. Her perspective towards world of Art has change her view about photography.

Let her do the talk about her world of art and Photography :

Photography is a budding interest in me. My skills and knowledge on pure photography are limited so i use what i know with what i have to create something decent for all to see.

Dream

Something that i take pleasure in doing. Recently, I started a self initiated project where i took a picture a day to improve my skills in photography, throughout the undertaking, i noticed a certain change in my style, I began to manipulate my pictures more and more and it has become somewhat surreal and i love doing it!

This leads me to where I am now. I enjoy making bizarre things with my photographs as much as i love taking pictures of my subjects. Being a graphic design student, this is just the perfect combination for me.

Singing in the rain

I often look at other artists' photographs, illustrations, sketches etc for inspiration, at the same time allows me to open up to new things and be experimental with my photography. I'd say, I make art rather than photographs.

Self Portrait

Photography and photo-manipulation has become a part of me. It is like painting on canvas where anything is possible.

First features for KK Photographer 88 are very well known old-school photographer / skateboard in the early 90's from Labuan who often skate and take photos in Red Square.
Charles William Gedius or well knows as Ah Chai.

Although Ah Chai photos are purposely taken like a candid shot but because of his passion towards photography. Most of his photos can tell a story, with his working experience as a publisher. His photo editting in digital era has given him to maintain the classy look most of his photos.

He has 3 philosophy about photography that is :
One thing:
I realize that earth is actually "flat". But seeing it in viewfinder, it is the other way around.

Two things:
I see potential "object" everywhere... need to feel it and be one with the subject.

Three things:
Photos should be the subject of discussion and not to be admired or praised. In fact there is no so called "Perfect" photos in the whole wide world.

Welcome to this special Blog.

Everymonth starting November 2009.
This blog will activate will all kind of Photography Art Works taken by the local talent from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

KK Photography 88 is about promoting Art of Photography.
Where a photo that can makes you curious or also a photo have poetic meaning.

It's not about commercial or wedding Photography.
We're not talking about camera tech too.

All kind of Format are welcome to submit your work.
From 35mm Film, Lomography, Digital Compact, Film SLR and also Digital SLR.

For those who interested to showcase your work here.
Please write a cover letter about you and photography and also a small description about your photography works.

Minimum 5 images, Maximum 10 images of your series.
Maximum width and height 1000px with sRGB color profiles.
